Winner of Best Guinean Male Artist Awards 2018

Bio Kandia Kora (Kouyate)

In January 2018 Kandia Kora won the Award of best Male Artist of Guinee. This tells a lot, cause Guinea is so rich in music, and the stars are many; but the last couple of years Kandia has grown to be his countries super star. Children sing his songs in the schools, the military bows when they see, him and the President invites him to sing when having important events. Often on stage with Sidiki Diabate, with whom he did several Afro Pop hits. Loved by his people, 60.000 audiences at Conakrys biggest stadium sang all of Kandias songs, one after another, at their last concert. His international career started as early as in 2006, when the film he both acted in and wrote music for,  Yaguine & Fodé, was presented in several Film Festivals in Europe. Later wrote the beautiful songs for the second, world famous animation movie, Kirikou et les hommes et les femmes. In 2011 the Kora Boss as he is nick named,  recorded with Alpha Blondy, whom he toured with, and in 2013 he recorded with Mulato Astatke. Since 2010 he has been musical member of Tiken Jah and in 2015 Kandia Kora toured a year with Salif Keita's Accoustic Set. In 2016 he was nominated for The Afrima Awards, The Kora Awards and won the RFI Awards. In 2017 he performed for a huge, thrilled audience at the main stage at Nuit D'Afrique in Montreal, Canada, showing that his fanbase starts building outside West Africa.

In 2014 during the dangerous epidemic, Kandia Kora wrote the song 'Africa Stop Ebola' and invited Tiken Jah Fakoly, Amadou & Mariam, Salif Keita, Mory Kanté, Oumou Sangare and more to sing and his brother Sekou Kouyate to play electric Kora, guitar and bass on the catchy song. With almost a million Youtube views, all profits went to the hard work of Doctors without Borders to combat the spread of the mortal epidemic.

Kandia's father, the late M'Bady Kouyate, was one of the most  respected Kora players of Guinea, and toured the world with Miriam Makeba and Harry Bellafonte, in the 60'es. Prodigal son of a big line of Griots of the Mandingue family, and younger brother of Sekou Kouyate, Kandia Kora, immortalizes the ancestral art of his family, tranforming the music to Afro Pop. Drawing from the wealth of the traditional directory, his compositions synthesize and merge all the styles of western Africa with the influences of the musics of the world. His musical wealth finds an echo in the polyglot texts where Susu, Mandinque and French is mixed and song with Kandias unique velvet like voice. Guided by soft melodies, Kandia's singing with the Mandigue technique he masters and the stunning virtuosity of his Kora playing, take us on acoustics rhythms where the trance invites in the dance. His huge library of catchy melodies has made him what he is today, Guineas super star number one.
